The KGH CSR program
Maiti Nepal– supporting CNN hero Anuradha Koirala's vision of integrating victims of trafficking back into society by giving them employment in KGH Hotels. www.maitinepal.org
The KGH group was one of the first hotels to employ room maids from Maiti Nepal – an organization which is now world famous for working with trafficked victims. The founder Anuradha Koirala was honoured with the CNN 2011 Heroes Award. Maiti Nepal has been rescuing girls forced into prostitution and rehabilitating them by giving various job related trainings and helping them to find economic independence so that they can adjust back to society.
We are proud to have trained and permanently employed 7 room maids and 3 restaurant waiters within a year. Through the efforts of Maiti Nepal, we have made a commitment to help women who have been trapped in such unfortunate circumstances, so that they can regain their self esteem and lead normal lives.
This is an on going process and the KGH group will always hire in future Maiti Nepal girls for vacancies available in housekeeping and F&B.
Beni – recycled nepali handicrafts. – The KGH Hotels are giving a platform for underprivileged women involved in eco friendly business to market and sell their products in the hotel premises.
Beni Nepal was started by one of our regular guests David Durkan, who helped a woman named Beni to re-invent her life by making bags out of recycle waste. Beni and her ladies collect, sort, wash and dry all discarded plastic bags from all over town and manufacture useful carry bags.
Based on their own designs, Beni and her team, handicraft this waste to also produce a collection of functional products for hotel rooms. You can see their products in many of our rooms.
We have also given them rental space at a very minimum rate to sell their products and this exposure has maximized their sale and profits. When staying in Kathmandu Guest House, do drop in and pick up something handy as a souvenir.
Battery Basket
Nepal has no battery disposal system and we at KGH are making a small effort to prevent the batteries from being dumped into the landfill and the water system.
As you enter the reception of the Kathmandu Guest House, you will see a recycled basket from Beni. If you have dead batteries, just dump it in the basket. We will ensure that the batteries are sent to the proper disposable place.
Old clothes donation box
We kindly request you to donate your old unwanted clothes and shoes in our donation box which in Kathmandu Guest House is placed in the hallway in front of the housekeeping. They will be distributed to the needy in old age homes and children’s orphanages.
Eco –friendly efforts
a. Drinking water plant
The KGH Group of Hotels has their own mineral water plant in Park Village Resort. We ensure WHO standard water to all our hotels and we make sure about recycling all the plastic bottles and containers.
b. Silent generator with minimum diesel consumption.
Nepal currently faces severe electricity shortage and hence all hotels have to survive on generator electricity. For the convenience of our guests, we have invested in high fuel efficiency silent generators in all our hotels.
