The KGH Group of Hotels and Resorts, a leading hotel chain in Nepal first established its first 13-room guest house in Thamel in 1968 namely Kathmandu Guest House (KGH). Since its establishment KGH presents itself as reliable destination for luxury lodging and fooding in Kathmandu Valley. Today, the Kathmandu Guest House is running a 102 bed rooms and 185 bed hotel and proposed expansion of its business through construction of one new building with total capacity of 130 bed rooms and 245 beds. This project has a number of beneficial impacts for the society and tourism sector but also has adverse impacts too. The EIA study has predicted and outlined the beneficial impacts and the adverse impacts as well. The adverse impacts are found to be nominal as compared to the benefits. The benefit augmentation measures for beneficial impact and mitigation measures for adverse have been proposed along with the possible exploration of alternatives. The proposed mitigation and management plans are practicable but require additional resources. Any unforeseen impacts not predicted in this EIA report, if appear during course of construction or implementation, shall also be mitigated by respective responsible agencies. Monitoring activities will need to focus on compliance to address unexpected impacts.

The proponent has planned to upgrade the hotel with due consideration and implementation of all the mitigation measures complying existing legislations and environmental standards. This EIA study examined existing environmental management practice and mitigation measures adopted at the study time and prescribed additional environmental mitigations to be carried out. The environmental and social impacts associated with the project construction and operation phase have been thoroughly assessed based on design, existing environmental conditions of the project vicinity and nature of the project. The environmental and social impacts shall be effectively mitigated with strict implementation of mitigation measures along with monitoring prescribed in this EIA study. The proposed mitigation and management plans are practicable but require additional resources. Any unforeseen impacts not predicted in this EIA report, if appear during course of construction or implementation, shall also be mitigated by the proponent. Monitoring activities will need to focus on compliance to address unexpected impacts. The proponent has agreed to establish and operate the proposed hotel with due consideration and implementation of all the mitigation measures complying existing legislations and environmental standards and will conduct periodic monitoring.
