Iconic & Legendary Hotel

Renowned for starting Adventure Tourism in Nepal.

The Kathmandu Guest House (KGH) is one of the first hotels of Nepal. Established in 1968 AD, the KGH started with just four rooms priced at one dollar a night. KGH today, is a landmark, historic and iconic institution of Nepal, renowned around the world for its association with mountaineers, historians, anthropologists and legendary personalities who have dedicated to nearly every aspect of Nepal’s development. The original building was first erected in 1902 AD designed by Kumar Narsingh Rana, the first architect of Nepal to design colonial-style palaces along with Singha Durbar (first parliament house of Nepal). This palace was acquired by Siddhi Bahadur Sakya in 1962 AD, and then converted into a hotel by his son, Karna Sakya.

KGH, is also known as the “Gateway to the Himalayas” and the “Creator of Thamel”. As Tony Wheeler, the founder of Lonely Planet, said, “Kathmandu Guest House, like Istanbul, is a bottleneck, where everybody has to pass through at one point or the other.” You are standing on the same ground as the pioneers who first summited the highest peaks, rafted in the deepest gorges and walked through the unchartered trails to discover the world and themselves.
