Iconic & Legendary Hotel

The Kathmandu Guest House (KGH), established in 1968 with just four rooms at a dollar a night, is a historic landmark in Nepal. Originally built in 1902 by Nepal’s first architect, Kumar Narsingh Rana, the colonial-style palace was later transformed into a hotel by Karna Sakya. Renowned as the “Gateway to the Himalayas” and the “Creator of Thamel,” KGH has hosted mountaineers, historians, anthropologists, and legendary figures shaping Nepal’s development. As Tony Wheeler, founder of Lonely Planet, said, KGH is a bottleneck where travelers inevitably pass through, standing on the same ground as the early pioneers who explored Nepal’s peaks, gorges, and trails.
